Lookup the location where a photo was taken

Many modern cameras (including phones) record the GPS location when you take a picture. This information is stored in your photo file using the EXIF format. This website analyzes the data and then displays your pictures on a map. You can also optionally lookup the address.

Here's how it works:

  1. On the top left click the blue button and select the photos you would like to see on the map.
  2. Then click on individual photos in the list. This will focus the map on that particular photo.
  3. If you would like to lookup the address, click on the "Lookup address" button.

Note that if "No GPS" is displayed, then the file does not contain GPS information and we can't show it on a map.

Privacy first

Most other websites or apps that analyze EXIF/GPS data from your photos require you to upload your photos to their servers. This could cause privacy and copyright issues. After all, you want to keep you photos private and not give other companies access and/or permission to use your images!

What's unique about Photomap.app is, that your photos are not even processed by a server. Everything that you see here runs inside your web browser only.

Please note howerver, that if you use the optional "Lookup Address" functionality, then the GPS coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap service.
